Raw Earth Environmental was engaged by DECC Credit Pty Ltd to carry out Noise and Dust Monitoring at the Whytes Gully Resource Recovery Park (WGRRP) during the civil construction works for the new landfill cell project. The monitoring programs aimed to validate the predicted impacts, measure the effectiveness of environmental controls, and ensure compliance with the project's Construction Environmental Management Plan (CEMP), Noise Management Plan (NMP), and Air Quality Monitoring Program.
Description of Services
Raw Earth Environmental provided the following services for noise and dust monitoring:
A) Noise Monitoring
The noise monitoring program validated the effectiveness of environmental controls and ensured compliance with the project criteria for noise levels. The scope of works included:
- Visual assessments of bulk excavation work areas.
- Installation of sound level meters at sample locations in accordance with NSW EPA Approved methods for the measurement and analysis of environmental noise in NSW (2002).
- Noise readings collected at sensitive receiver locations.
- Monthly report, detailing the noise monitoring results and compliance with project standards.
B) Dust Monitoring
The dust monitoring program provided validation of the predicted impacts of the project and assessed the effectiveness of dust control measures, as outlined in the CEMP and Air Quality Monitoring Program. The scope of works included:
- Site walkover to identify optimal locations for dust monitoring equipment, focusing on areas most susceptible to dust migration.
- Installation of dust deposition gauges near the site boundary to assess potential off-site dust impacts.
- Dust monitoring conducted in accordance with Australian/New Zealand Standards (AS/NZS 3580.10.1:2003) Methods for sampling and analysis of ambient air: Method 10.1: Determination of particulate matter – deposited matter – gravimetric method
- Laboratory analysis by a NATA-accredited facility
- Monthly reporting on dust levels and compliance with project criteria.
